Sprout Was Running Out of Time
He's counting on you to help him make it through
When six-month-old Sprout first developed a slight limp, his owner did exactly what any loving pet owner would do: he took him to the veterinarian.
His leg looked normal on X-rays, but bloodwork suggested something more serious might be developing. A follow-up appointment was strongly recommended.
Sadly, financial hardship made that impossible.
Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months. And while Sprout waited, his tiny body continued to fail.
When personal circumstances eventually forced his owner to surrender him to SpayMart, the difference between Sprout and the family's other cat was heartbreaking. While Latte weighed a healthy 8 pounds, Sprout weighed only 4.
He was covered in fleas and flea dirt. He was severely dehydrated, anemic, incontinent, unable to stand or walk, and so weak he barely seemed aware of the world around him.
He was dying.
But because we believed our community would come through for Sprout, we began treatment.
He was immediately hospitalized, placed on IV fluids, and fitted with a feeding tube. Around-the-clock feedings every three to four hours slowly began bringing him back from the brink.
Then something wonderful happened.
The emptiness in Sprout's eyes began to fade.
Within days, he became brighter and more alert. Soon he was showing interest in food again. Before long, this determined little kitten was standing on his own and taking wobbly steps. Today, he is eating independently, growing stronger every day, and responding remarkably well to treatment.
Sprout still has a long road ahead, but he is proving every day that he wants to live.
His lifesaving medical care has already run up a bill of approximately $3,000, and we're asking for your help.
Your gift will help cover the cost of the emergency treatment, hospitalization, diagnostics, medications, and ongoing care that gave Sprout a second chance.
Every donation reminds us that when a kitten is willing to keep fighting, compassionate people are willing to fight beside him.
