Saving 49 Lives and One Brave Kitten
Just over a week ago, a particularly heart-wrenching plea reached our ears. A distressed lady reached out, telling us of her gravely ill cat, Lucky, and her inability to help him. Despite our swift intervention, Lucky couldn't make it, but what he unveiled was a situation more dire than we could have imagined: 49 unvaccinated cats in a single household, all exposed to the deadly disease Feline Panleukopenia.
In the face of such overwhelming
odds, it would have been easy to step back, to call animal control, to
protect ourselves and our resources. But that's not what SpayMart is
about.
Of those 49, 15 were immediately taken
under our wing, treated with all our might and resources. Sadly, ten of
these brave souls didn't make it. Yet, the remaining cats, those in the
home and those we rescued, have been treated, vaccinated, and cared for.
The
tale that tore at our heartstrings the most was of Tassie, a calico
mom. Though she fought valiantly and cared for her babies to her last
breath, she tragically lost her life and most of her kittens, too. Only
one tiny tuxedo-clad fighter named Skipper prevailed. Despite his health
challenges, the 13-day-old baby radiates a zest for life that's truly
inspirational.
This enormous rescue endeavor
required vast amounts of time, resources, and expertise. It also
reminded us starkly of the paramount importance of spaying and
neutering, and our mission won't be complete until every cat in that
house is sterilized, a task we've scheduled for late October.
Now, more than ever, we need your help!
SpayMart
bravely stepped up when others might have stepped back. Every cat,
every Skipper, every Tassie, represents a soul in need of love, care,
and a second chance.
Will you stand with us,
with Skipper, and with the other 38 survivors? Your generous donation
will go directly to helping these cats, ensuring they receive the
medical care, shelter, and love they so desperately need.
Thank
you for being a part of the SpayMart family. It is because of
supporters like you that we can make a difference, one feline life at a
time.
